Classic TV Theme: Dark Shadows (1991 • Full Stereo)
The primetime revival of Dan Curtis's gothic daytime soap brought bigger budgets to the horror saga, along with some revisions in the storyline. Curtis said 'We arrive at similar points through a much different route.' Audiences didn't warm to Dark Shadows 2.0 and, despite campaigns by fans, NBC ended the series after a dozen episodes. Bob Cobert's memorable theme from the original is rendered here with prototypical spookiness.
00:00 Opening titles.
01:11 End credits.

Classic TV Theme: Saints and Sinners (Elmer Bernstein)

There was an ulterior motive behind Four Star's various anthology series: almost any episode could become a pilot for a future show. 'Zane Grey Theatre' alone spawned seven Western series. The pilot for 'Saints and Sinners' aired in 1961 on 'The Dick Powell Show' and starred Nick Adams as a dedicated, intense newspaperman; the series followed in 1962. Guest stars included Red Buttons, Barbara E...

In a post-apocalyptic world, five heroes do battle against the evil scientist, Overlord, who seeks to rule Earth via his deadly Zone Generators capable of transforming people into zombie-like beings. One of Stephen J Cannell's less successful productions, 'The Quest' involved four people distantly related to past rulers of a European country. The current king had no family and didn't want France to claim the territory should he die, so he found four people who had at least a few drops of royal blood. They would compete in a complicated around-the-world 'Amazing Race' style quest to see who ...

A second-season episode from this rarely-seen series examining Hollywood's past and present (as of 1978) with clips, commentary, etc in the manner of 'That's Entertainment!'. In this installment Tom Bosley looks at movie music: from the early days of sound to the scores and the songs that became part of Hollywood's 'Hit Parade'. In 1992 Joss Whedon's theatrical film of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' was released to mixed reviews. The movie was a modest success but other cooks had watered down Whedon's broth. In 1997 the tv series debuted, and this time Whedon (as EP and show runner) had control. 'Buffy' ran for seven seasons, and its spinoff 'Angel' lasted for five. The show won three Emmys and ranked #7 of TV Guide's 'Gre...

Blair Brown and Adrian Pasdar were the leads; the CBS show lasted a total of six episodes. • South Beach: Filmed in Florida, this 1993 action-adventure hour use...

CBS tried something new for their Saturday morning schedule: live action shows instead of cartoons. It didn't work, and in 1998 they returned to animation. The voice artists (Dwayne Hill, Linda Kash, et al) were predominantly Canadian. 26 episodes were produ...

Similar to the US 'Thriller' (hosted by Boris Karloff) the UK series of the same title offered stories of suspense, mystery, and the supernatural. He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so, Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping that each time that his next leap...would be the leap home."

I love this show, it should have been called "Action Jackson's Street Justice," but hey, Carl Weathers and Bryan Genesee were a heck a team just like Sammo Hung, Kelly Hu and Arsenio Hall did in the CBS action series, "Martial Law" years later.

I used to watch this show as a kid. I'm trying to find something. I'm writing a book about movie trivia. On one of these shows, they explained how a train (or maybe a subway) came right into a camera lens. I think they reversed the film. Can anyone tell me which episode that was, or what film that was?

THE A-TEAM was created by writers/producers Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo at the behest of Brandon Tartikoff, NBC's Entertainment president. Cannell was fired from ABC in the early 1980s, after failing to produce a hit primetime show for the network, and was hired by NBC; his first project was "The A-Team." Brandon Tartikoff pitched the series to Cannell as a combination of THE DIRTY DOZEN, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, MAD MAX, and HILL STREET BLUES, with Mr. T. driving the car.

Such an overlooked show! It was Blackish before Blackish and imo much better and funnier than that show. I wish we could get really fun and actually funny sitcoms like this one, Martin, My Wife and Kids,The Parkers, Married with Children, Fresh Prince, Frasier, Seinfeld, Family Matters, The Steve Harvey Show, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son and Everybody Hates Chris again.

I watched Gadget on Nickelodeon as repeats. It usually ran everyday, on weekdays and weekends during 1987-92 and again from 1996-2000. I also seemed to know watching Inspector Gadget on most Saturday afternoons on CBS during the early 90’s here in South Carolina when the CBS affiliate WCSC weren’t showing Soul Train.

I actually liked the 1990s Dark Shadows. I also had a major crush on Joanna Going from this series - spirits, she was gorgeous. The casting was spot on in so many ways. And Dark Shadows wouldn't be Dark Shadows without Bob Colbert's eerie music. The gothic look was also very well done. The producers of the remake did a great job picking and choosing elements from the original series, and they recreated them nicely. They were able to START with Barnabas instead of leading to him later (which was originally a desperate attempt to drum up interest in the series). And it allowed them to proceed with a definite plan and an actual endgame (though the series was cancelled long before getting anywhere close to it). They also were able to address certain discontinuities -- in retrospect -- from the original. Since the original series introduced the ghost of Josette long before Barnabas, the characters of Victoria and Josette were played by different people. The new series linked the two as they should be (which was, naturally, reflected in the movie). I think I read that they also were going to actually address Victoria's mysterious past, but never really lasted long enough to get there. The original series virtually abandoned that plot thread when the monsters started showing up, and then lost it completely when Alexandra Moltke left the series. Too bad.

I thought the Sagal twins were so cute in this series. They didn't really have much for the twins to do on the show, but at least they didn't all back too much on the old Patty Duke nonsense of confusing one twin for the other. It's a bit of a shame that they shifted formats halfway through - I actually preferred the original format. The second format just repeated the "I wanna be famous" trope, which gets boring after a while. Of course, their Dad was director Boris Sagal, and their sister is Katey Sagal of Married With Children, Sons of Anarchy, and, of course, Futurama.
